Sweet and Sour Stirfry on Mixed Rice
This is one of my favourite dishes.
Cook chicken in oil salt and pepper until cooked through, add mixed vegetables (We add what we have around, today it was asparagus, broccoli, mixed mushrooms and snap peas), shrimp and sauce (all the ingredients mixed together) for approx 10 minutes or until desired tenderness.
Thicken if you want, I love a nice thick sauce on my rice personally.

For the rice I buy the Delrose mixed rice at Costco, it's white, brown, basmati, wild and red rice and I add extra jasmine to the mix.
POOP:
12 people today for dinner and there was no poop talk at the table! There was gas talk along the lines of "don't get behind a 67 year old man in a furnace room... closest to death I've ever felt" according to my sister.
Natalie, what store would you recommend for main stream gluten free items? I notice several of the smaller basic stores are slowly getting 'mixes' or 'specialty' items in for different things that are labeled gluten free... but I'd rather stay away from mixes and sauces due to all the other extra gems they put in there! I've started paying attention more since I have a Gluten and Egg Alergy girl in my Brownie unit .. so i thought we'd try to adjust any snacks or special nights to accomodate her but the more I read and pay attention to what we're eating... we're personally trying harder to make better choices at home too... its not really about accomodating anymore its about being smart about what we put in our bodies and chosing healthier options... Thanks for starting your blog!!
ReplyDeleteHi Willow,
DeleteThat is a great question, one I get asked often actually. But it really depends on what you mean by "main stream gluten free items"?
Like you said packaged foods hide all sorts of gems in them, and MSG (mono sodium glutimate) has many many names as do other additives that are just plain bad for you! Advertisers are sneaky sneaky.. We stay away from packaged foods in general, just like you learning as we go how truly "bad" they are for you.
If you are not Celiac then any Bulk food bins type place tends to have a great selection of flours, mixes etc.. And for bread products we use 2 local Gluten free bakeries and freeze the breads when we get home. Not sure where you are located;)
We have found its just better to make our own goodies, replacing cooked white Quinoa for eggs in our muffins works great and adds protein, a great breakfast idea.
Thanks for your question!! Keep em coming:)
